Wakefield entrepreneur among guests in attendance of Royal event

A start-up fashion entrepreneur was among a select number of guests to attend His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales event.

Held at Dumfries House on Friday 9 September, Ross Barr Hoyland, founder of Ross Barr, attended The Campaign for Wool.

The exclusive event focused on wool for fashion and interior design and the encouragement of British manufacturing, which Ross Barr is a keen advocate of.

The clothing line is made entirely from British Wool and previously received the royal seal of approval from the Queen and Prince Charles, including attending the 40th anniversary of the Princes Trust Centre in Kennington earlier this year.

Having achieved support from The Prince’s Trust to set up in September 2015, Ross Barr Hoyland was joined at the event by fellow Prince's Trust Enterprise graduate and company, textile designer, Adriana Homewares. Ross Barr’s clothing has been worn by one of the UK’s top male models, David Gandy who also attended the event.

Ross comments:

“Having previously met His Royal Highness and the Queen, I am absolutely honoured to have been invited back to attend this royal event.

“Ross Barr shares the same ethos behind the Campaign for Wool and so we’re proud to support and encourage young manufacturers of Great British wool and it was a pleasure to connect with the pioneers of the industry.”

Other Great British brands in attendance included British Wool Marketing Board, Marks and Spencer, Paul Smith, Eco Age, British GQ, The Woolmark Company, FashionRevolution and many more.

About Ross Barr

Launching with the support of The Prince’s Trust, luxury British menswear label, Ross Barr has aims higher than simply dressing men better. With a design ethos inspired by historically iconic, British fashion trends, the label aims to be a major contributor to the resurgence of Britain’s wool trade, a cause close to H.R.H. The Prince of Wales’s heart.

We are launching with a signature piece, ‘The Spencer’, which is the embodiment of British craftsmanship. A chunky knit, double-breasted, flattering wool cardigan with shawl collar, The Spencer is very much inspired by the Regency period, brought up to date by Ross Barr’s eponymous designer.

Knitted and hand-finished in Leicester, with Yorkshire-spun Scottish yarn and finished with English pine buttons. ‘The Spencer’ is unapologetically British and is initially available in three colours; Claret, Denim and Loden.

‘Through Ross Barr, I hope to champion ‘Made in Britain’. As a country, we have great heritage in both textiles and fashion, and I aim to bring the two together through contemporary, wearable menswear collections. Affordable British luxury, quality British craftsmanship with modern, quintessentially British design twists. That, in summary, is my vision for Ross Barr,’ comments Ross Barr, the founder of the label. ‘Every stitch, every thread: authentically British, always.’

Barr, 26, hails from Wakefield, Yorkshire, and within his lifetime has witnessed industry in his local area deplete on a large scale. Mills and factories have closed, degeneration has risen; job opportunities and quality of life have dwindled. Simultaneously, he has seen at first hand, working in the fashion retail industry, the resurgence in demand for high-end, British goods.

‘I love fashion but my real inspiration comes from helping to regenerate British industry. Helping to claim sales and manufacturing back from overseas brands, so we have more employment and a stronger economy. Britain has seen too many of its’ former ‘national treasure’ brands go to the wall in recent decades as we have faced competition from abroad. I want to help offer employment, training and skills to people so that they can provide for their families with a decent income. I have met too many individuals desperate for employment, who have no guidance and no hope because there is nothing for them in their local areas. That is why I am so honoured to say I have been helped by The Prince’s Trust, because this is exactly what they do so well and I will be forever in their debt for allowing myself the chance I have now been given.’
