Tutor from Reading wins national award
A local man has won a national tutoring award that recognises outstanding commitment and the profound difference made in student’s lives.
Now in their 5th year, the Tutor of the Year Awards are run by global education specialist, Tutor Doctor. National finalists are first nominated by students and their families and the winner is then decided by Tutor Doctor CEO and renown education professional, Frank Milner.
Chris Hinsley, who is 35 and from Reading, has been a tutor with the Berkshire office of the in-home tutoring company for just over a year. After receiving more than 460 votes from local students and their families, Chris was named National Tutor of the Year on 28th July.
On receiving his award and prize of £135 Amazon gift voucher, Chris said: “I was really shocked to find out I had been nominated in the first place, let alone won! It’s so nice to have been recognised in this way, especially when you think about how many tutors there are in the network in the UK. I do what I do to make a difference and because I love seeing my students blossom and grow in confidence and skill over time.”
Husband and wife team, Mark and Joanna Butler, have owned and operated Tutor Doctor in Berkshire, since 2014. Joanna said she was thrilled for Chris, and thanked him for the dedication and passion he shows when working with local students of all ages and ability.
“Our tutors come from all walks of life…we have teachers, undergraduates, psychologists, lawyers, specialist teaching assistants, retirees and everything in between. What they all share is a passion for helping others to succeed and it’s so exciting to see them acknowledged in this way. Chris is a huge asset to the team and he thoroughly deserves this award. Chris has an amazing, dedicated perseverance to work with students that do not believe in themselves and may not have the support in their home life to encourage them to achieve. He never gives up on them and is always willing to take on the "challenge" of an unwilling student.”
At a home-based consultation, Mark thoroughly assesses a student’s needs and then carefully selects the best-fit tutor based on their goals, personality and learning style. Tutors, like Chris, then visit students at home or work with them via an online platform, so that they can learn in the comfort of their own home, at a time that suits them.
After being crowned the winner from over 1700 tutors, Chris now goes forward as a finalist in the Global Tutor of the Year Awards which will take place in October. The global winner will receive an all-expenses paid trip ($2500) to a destination of their choosing as well as the prestigious title of Global Tutor of the Year.
