The use of drones in photography is taking off

Drone photography is becoming more popular, according to commercial photography company Lee Blanchflower Ltd.

Founder and Director Lee Blanchflower is fully licensed to fly drones in the UK.

He says: “Drone technology has become even more sophisticated and versatile in 2018. It’s recently been revealed that 14.6% have used their drone for taking professional photographs, and another 13.9% have created professional videos. The reason that isn’t higher is because there are so many requirements for using drones correctly and responsibly.”

The industrialisation of drones has picked up over the past 18 months. Drones are now being used for delivering consumer products, providing humanitarian aid, security support and much more. 2017 was a pivotal year for the drone industry, after 110,000 unmanned aerial vehicles, or UAVs, were sold in a single year for commercial use. That figure is expected to rise dramatically this year, too. Venture capital poured into drone firms has amounted to around £400m every year since 2015.

This has had a huge knock-on effect for visuals. Aerial shots have become much more popular on television shows over the past few years.

They are also used by estate agents, as well as making a significant contribution to dramatic wedding videos.

Capitalising on this industry boom, Lee’s company runs a Norwich drone filming operation. They have achieved a full licence with a PFCO from the Civil Aviation Authority.

“Put simply, this means that we’ve passed all the exams to hold ‘Permission for Commercial Operation,” he says.

“We’ve got an experienced flight team that offers beautiful drone footage, 3D mapping and aerial still photography.”

The team has already produced stunning aerial content for The Royal Norfolk Show, the Forestry Commission England and NORSE Group.
