The First Breakfast Cereal in Plastic Free Pouches – It’s Troo...!
The first breakfast cereal in plastic free pouches has just been launched by foodie start up TrooFoods Ltd.
The pioneering company worked with UK based B&G Products who have co-developed the ‘Earthpouch’ with HAVI – creating a 100% plastic free, compostable, recyclable and made from renewable materials. “We’re delighted with the pouches” says TrooFoods Co-Founder Helenor Rogers “they still stand out with our bold design and they protect our granola – we’ve had to compromise slightly on shelf life and ‘shininess’ but that’s got to be worth it for the environmental benefits”.
The pouches are made from paper and then coated with a special plastic free material that seals in the freshness. TrooFoods is the first company to use them, but they do hope others will follow. Market research specialists Mintel state that 'Concerns over safe packaging disposal will increasingly colour consumers’ perceptions of different packaging types, and impact shopper purchase decisions' - so business really does need to respond.
Troo Granola also ticks all of the boxes in terms of food trends. Containing only natural ingredients it is packed with prebiotics, essential nourishment for your good gut bacteria. “We’re passionate about Gut Health” explains Helenor, “we want to help people understand the importance of eating a rich and varied, largely plant-based diet”.
They claim it is ‘probably the healthiest granola in the world’ - it is less than 3% sugar and gluten free. One bowl provides 25% of your daily fibre requirement and the same amount of protein as an egg. Packed full of nutritious British jumbo oats, nuts and seeds and sweetened with chicory root fibre (inulin) it tastes delicious too! “Too much healthy food comes with a taste compromise” says Helenor; “we wanted to create trooly healthy, no nonsense, blooming delicious granola – full stop”.
Troo Granola is currently stocked in Planet Organic, Harvey Nichols and online at www.eattroo.com.
