FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TalkTalk have been awarded the Biggest Cyber Blunder of the Year award, by the Cyber Security Awards. In a year with a large number of contenders, TalkTalk stood out due to the number of customers affected and poor communication from the company in the first few weeks. The judges commented that the information from the company was unclear in the first days and weeks, with CEO Baroness Harding, saying that she did not know whether information was encrypted. The viral image of Harding, in front of a Windows ME computer and VCR, cemented the judge’s decision. The company have lost customers and share price since the attack, but have also made improvements to their cyber security.
One judge commented “the company’s cyber defences were inadequate and many would agree, so was their handling of the breach. However, we would love to be awarding them Best Recovery at the 2017 awards! We know from the press that they have investigated thoroughly and are making company-wide improvements. They would be a very strong contender in that category and it would be a great turnaround for them.”
The Cyber Security Awards has 10 expert judges, who represent a broad spectrum of different backgrounds and organisations with the cyber industry. Their scores and debate will determine the 2016 Cyber Security Awards winners. The winners will be announced and celebrated during the awards dinner and presentation on June 23rd 2016 at the Chelsea Harbour Hotel. The ceremony will be attended by the finalists, industry leaders, judges and sponsors.
