Colchester-based street food business Pot ‘O’ Rizotto is getting behind a national initiative which supports micro businesses, and is urging others to do the same.

MicroBizMatters Day, which is being held today, focuses on companies with nine employees or fewer, turning over no more than £2m a year.

There are many ways of getting involved on the day, and of sharing and learning knowledge about running a smaller business via social media networks.

Pot ‘O’ Rizotto serves street food as well as catering for corporate events. Its co-owner Beata Illes says: “We’re delighted to get behind this initiative. Why not do one thing to support a smaller business today, whether that’s eating from local food stalls or anything else? Smaller businesses make a dynamic contribution to the British economy and to our society and so deserve support.”

Pot 'O' Rizotto serves a variety of meals from Edith – a vintage 1955 Citroen HY van. All food is freshly cooked using locally sourced, top-quality ingredients. But as the name suggests, the emphasis is on home-made risotto dishes. Facebook reviews comment on the quality of both the service and the food.

Recent years have seen strong expansion in the wedding and corporate event market. In particular, the service is popular for evening wedding receptions, as an alternative to the standard sausage rolls and sandwiches.

“Hire us for a wedding and we’ve got the old, new, borrowed and blue covered,” adds Illes. “We’re looking forward to catering for more weddings and events throughout 2019.”
