Support Small Business Saturday urges SME recruitment business

As many people may be aware, Saturday 1st December is Small Business Saturday and an occasion to celebrate small businesses and encourage people to ‘shop local’.

The event reaches millions of customers and small business owners every year, but many companies have said it feels particularly important in 2018.

The High Street has not been kind to smaller businesses in recent years, with higher rents and customers still feeling the pinch from the economic downturn. With Brexit now only weeks away, there’s more uncertainty over the future of many retailers and the consumer landscape in the years to come.

Small Business Saturday is an opportunity to celebrate the work of small businesses everywhere, and retail recruitment firms such as Wander have found cause for optimism.

Wander owner Luke Secker said: “This is a fantastic event and the perfect time to really get behind small business owners throughout the United Kingdom. There are signs that more and more people are choosing to shop local and support their smaller retailers, the majority of whom offer better quality and service.

“Although we’ve seen many closures over the past few years, consumer confidence is growing and there’s renewed interest in reviving local High Streets. This may only be one day but at Wander we support small businesses year-round, helping them find the best staff and ensuring the recruitment process runs smoothly. We’re fully committed to saving our shops and creating more jobs in our villages, towns and cities.”

Wander's innovative app uses GPS to alert passersby when a small business is recruiting, meaning higher application numbers and rapid, more effective recruitment.

While this is only a one-off event in the calendar, the organisers believe the campaign can have a lasting impact on small business and the communities they serve. More companies than ever before have chosen to take part this year, with many hosting special events or offering discounts to boost the footfall through their doors just in time for the Christmas crowds.
