'Support indie craft businesses’ says online retailer ahead of Small Business Saturday

A leading online craft store, Crafty UK, has spoken out about the need for more people to support independent businesses.

The announcement comes in anticipation of this year’s Small Business Saturday, which will take place on Saturday 1 December.

The initiative aims to raise the profile of local and small businesses who are struggling as increasing amounts of money are being spent with multi-national online retailers or in so-called ‘big box’ stores.

Crafty UK stocks a range of acrylic templates and craft supplies used for card making and sewing projects such as quilting.

Andrew Robinson, owner of Crafty UK said, “As we head towards Christmas, many people begin to look for sturdy templates to help them create special handmade Christmas cards, decorations and other handmade projects, while others begin buying such items as gifts for craft loving friends and family. But this Small Business Saturday, we are urging shoppers to consider spending their hard-earned money supporting independent craft businesses in return for a more personalised service and a guarantee of quality.”

He added, “Unlike large faceless corporations, we are knowledgeable about the products we stock and are dedicated to providing value for money. Our profits go back into the UK economy, rather than being diverted elsewhere, and above all, we value the bond we make with every new customer.”

Small Business Saturday aims to encourage people to shop local on the high street, but it also supports the work of online traders who offer something different, whether it is in terms of quality, diversity of product ranges or simply a high level of service. With backing from a range of figures, from the Prime Minister to fashion designer Alexa Chung, it is a key fixture in the calendar of small traders, with many traders offering generous discounts and running events.
