A beauty salon in a car dealership? That’s what one Audi showroom instructed their designers to deliver...
It seems that automotive dealerships are raising the bar in terms of customer satisfaction by delivering a new level of in-showroom pastimes for customers who are on site for any period of time. These are consumer facilities that take care of the customer to the same exacting standards as the car!
One Audi dealership in Poole, Dorset, had the vision to include a luxury salon in the design of its new showroom. That’s when a stunning mosaic eye wall design dreamed up by K&K Interiors became a reality.

David Kelly said: “When I first decided to relocate the Poole Audi showroom and workshop, I wanted something really special for our customers. Just imagine if we could offer a therapeutic massage, manicure or professional shave while one’s car is being serviced?”
Keeley Fox explained: “David virtually gave us carte blanche on the design and we felt we could be bold enough to specify the eye design, knowing that TREND Transformations would be able to carry our brief to not only fruition but to a very high standard.”
The eye mosaic was created using a CAD 1x1 technique incorporating small 1x1 tesserae (one small piece of a mosaic) from the Vitreo, Brillante, Shining and Feel ranges at TREND Transformations.
TREND’s artistic department converted the image provided by K&K Interiors to a pixelated format. Then they attributed an individual colour to every square which makes up the pixelated image. A paper ‘map’ of the image is then created and the tesserae are then placed face down on to the paper, much like a children’s ‘painting by numbers’ project. The 3m x 3.3m tiled paper image is then cut into 30x30cm sheets which are numbered. They are then adhered in sequence onto the prepared wall surface before the paper is removed, exposing the front face of the tesserae. The mosaic is then grouted and the true beauty of its 99,000 individually hand-placed tiles is revealed.
Keeley says, “The whole salon is beautifully stylish but the mosaic eye really is the winning feature. The team at TREND Transformations did not disappoint and we are over the moon with the result and so is our client.”
We have high-quality images available for the whole salon from a variety of angles - not just the treatment room and eye mosaic.
