STICKY HEELZ founder is shorlisted for two RBS awards #GoDo and Scale- Up Entrepreneur of the Year

Shortlisted for the 2017 Royal Bank of Scotland Great British Entrepreneur Awards Announced

It has been announced that Glasgow based STICKY HEELZ has been shortlisted for the 2017 Royal Bank of Scotland Great British Entrepreneur Awards in the #GODO ENTREPRENEUR and SCALE-UP ENTREPRENEUR of the Year awards.

STICKY HEELZ beat off some tough competition in order to make the regional shortlist, with over 1000 businesses entering the awards nationally across the wide range of categories.

Now in its fifth year, the Royal Bank of Scotland Great British Entrepreneur Awards has celebrated some amazing entrepreneurs over the years, many of whom are now household names. Past winners include David Buttress of Just Eat, Julie Deane of The Cambridge Satchel Company, James Watt of BrewDog and Alexander Solomou of TheLADBible Group.

Laura Birrell, inventor and founder of Sticky Heelz said “I am delighted to have been shortlisted for this category. It has been a real learning curve for me inventing a product and brand then commercialising that product in the retail market. I left my full-time role as a director of a building research company two years ago, so that I could create a work/life balance and be home more to look after my son, who was two at the time. I never believed that in two years I could achieve the shortlist for two business awards. However, we have been busy. I have secured an invested business partner, I am about to launch four new products, with a further four in development. We have just finished filming a TV commercial for the UK that will screen for Christmas and we are soon to film a TV commercial for the USA market (filming was postponed due to the hurricane Irma). We are progressing major distribution interest in the USA and Japan, in addition to our listings in the UK with Boots plus another major UK retailer we are finalising contracts with. There is some great competition within each category, but making the shortlist that has had such esteemed previous winners is amazing validation for my business.”

Creator of the Awards, Francesca James, said: “We have been inundated with some incredible entries this year, and all shortlisted applicants should be extremely proud of themselves! This year has seen a record number of entrants and we’ve been absolutely blown away by the strength and diversity of applications.”

“We cannot wait to celebrate entrepreneurship across Great Britain with them, and put a spotlight on the incredible talent within the British entrepreneur ecosystem.”

Gordon Merrylees, Head of Entrepreneurship at Royal Bank of Scotland said: "I want to thank all of the entrepreneurs who entered this year and congratulate those who have been shortlisted, I look forward to seeing them at the regional finals.”

“It is clear that entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well and Royal Bank of Scotland is thrilled to be able to support these awards to celebrate success with the businesses that are the lifeblood of the UK Economy as they start, scale and succeed.”

The Royal Bank of Scotland Great British Entrepreneur Awards will celebrate entrepreneurship across a number of categories at 5 gala finals across the UK, including; Cardiff, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Manchester & London.
