Startup Funding Club Wins UK Business Award for Small Business funding

An investment company that provides funding for start up businesses has won an industry-acclaimed award.

The Startup Funding Club won the accolade for Lead Syndicate of the Year at the Angel Investment Awards, run by the UK Business Angels Association.

The ceremony was held in early July at the Dorchester Hotel in front of 300 distinguished guests from the investment industry, and each award was introduced by Kiki Loizou, the Small Business Editor of the Sunday Times.

Club CEO Stephen Page formed the club in 2012 along with experienced entrepreneurs and investors after they noticed the challenges that start-ups encounter when accessing initial funding.

Stephen said: "We are delighted to have won and hope that more startups and investors will soon benefit from our business."

The UK Business Angels Association said that the Startup Funding Club “has demonstrated strong activity in the past year with over 35 investments comprising of leading players with entrepreneurial and industry expertise, including a significant 30% ratio of women investors”.

The club specialises in SEIS, a government scheme which reduces the risks from early stage investments. Among other benefits, investors get a 50% tax rebate on their investment.

Stephen added: "What makes us different is our unique co-investment model. Our SEIS funds invest alongside experienced business angels, giving maximum support and better funding to young businesses."
