“Small businesses like mine are vital for our economy” says Harris’s Hog Roast

A local catering trader is encouraging everyone to get behind small businesses across the country following Small Business Saturday on December 1.

“If we are to see a revival of local communities it’s essential for people to shop locally, in their nearest high street or market, and avoid the usual household-name retailers and web giants if possible,” said David Harris of Dis-based Harris’s Hog Roast.

The idea behind Small Business Saturday is that pre-Christmas shoppers hunting for the perfect seasonal present stick to smaller, more local traders and retailers in their communities, or make purchases with them online.

“We want to urge people to think about small businesses and shop locally, whether you’re just browsing or have a very specific list of things to buy,” added Harris.

“But shopping can be hungry work! When it comes to breaking for food, think about the smaller market stalls for lunch and coffee stops, rather than the usual chains.”

Harris set up his hog roast business after being made redundant from a high street supermarket where he had worked for years. Operating across Suffolk, his company takes bookings for all kinds of events, offering on-site roasted pork and rolls plus salad and cupcakes for dessert. The focus is on food which is locally and ethically sourced.
