Sky Blue’s the Limit for Local Business

Ipswich, UK – Local Digital Marketing Agency, Sky Blue Toffee, moved into their new office in Ipswich this week. The Agency was set up a year ago and has been operating from The Suffolk Enterprise Centre in Felaw Maltings, Ipswich for most of 2016. The move marks the next phase in the agency’s plans to offer professional and affordable Digital Marketing services to SMEs in the local area.

Co-founders Mick Scanlon and Jeff Keating both left jobs at an established Marketing Agency in Essex in September 2015 to set up their own business. As Jeff explains, in their eyes it was the next logical step. “Mick and I had both worked on some great projects and worked with some big-name clients, including Motorola, Rentokil Initial, Sony, easyoffice and Cartoon Network, but Digital Marketing has changed a lot in the past few years and we felt the larger agencies were no longer providing a proper Digital Marketing solution, especially to new and small businesses.”

There Goes the Neighbourhood!

The new office is situated in Eagle Street and comes with quite a bit of history. In the 1894 edition of Stephens’ Directory of Ipswich and Neighbourhood, the building is listed as belonging to Arthur Mudd, a local butcher. It even has its own Ipswich Society Blue Plaque in honour of the Suffolk Historian John Glyde, who lived there in the 1840’s.

What’s in a Name?

One question that Mick and Jeff have been asked several times since setting up the business, is where did the name come from? “We thought long and hard about the name,” explains Jeff, “we wanted something with personality, something that reflected who we were. I think we came up with a list of about 50 ideas, with a few good ones that we liked, but nothing had the ‘wow’ factor. Then Mick sent me a text with three words on it.”

Jeff hails from Liverpool and Mick is from Coventry. Although both have now made their homes in East Anglia they still follow their hometown football teams. “I was sitting watching the scores come in one Saturday, and it came to me. Everton are known as the Toffees and Coventry are the Sky Blues,” explains Mick. The more I thought about it, the more I said it out loud, the more I liked it. So, it stuck!”

Does the Future Hold Promotion?

Sky Blue Toffee are already working with several local businesses on some exciting projects including website builds and search marketing campaigns. So, what does the future hold? “It’s been a crazy few weeks trying to sort the office out but we’ve almost finished everything we need to do,” says Jeff. “We’ve got a Google awards ceremony to go to, Mick is a graduate of Google’s Squared Marketing Course and they are hosting an annual alumni awards in December, and before you know it we’ll be into the New Year. We have a sound business plan with growth targets for 2017 and beyond, and we’ve learnt from the mistakes we’ve seen other people in our field make, so we are very positive about the future.”
