Having launched this autumn, Sheer Apparel provides busy and style-conscious women with a convenient shopping experience for a range of gorgeous garments that are produced ethically and with a limited impact on the environment.

Not least since the recent BBC Panorama programme on child labour in garment factories [http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-37693173], are a growing number of women becoming more conscious of the poor working conditions and excessive waste that a number of fashion brands have become known for and are demanding greater transparency. Especially around Christmas, when shopping peaks, they want to know they are supporting brands with strong values.

Finding brands that are truly committed to sustainability as well as aspirational and wearable can, however, be tricky and time-consuming. Many are simply expensive. Existing ethical fashion retailers focus on more casual wear not relevant for women with busy corporate jobs and carry a limited range of categories. ‘A good start, but for women who want to look sharp at a client meeting and feel great at the gym while ensuring their fashion purchases have a positive impact, that just doesn´t cut it.’, says Paula Haunit, founder of Sheer Apparel.

As a former City economist who understands the variable impacts of the global fashion supply chain on workers in developing countries, Paula´s goal is for Sheer Apparel to fill that gap. The store, which also delivers to Europe, helps women find great outfits for work and play, sportswear, lingerie and accessories, without compromising on their values.

Sheer Apparel´s ambition is to grow into a one-stop shop for sustainable fashion, offering a carefully selected range of brands with great style and providing all the information customers could wish for. ‘We only stock pieces we love. All pieces are made from beautiful, sometimes very innovative, fabrics and are exceptional quality. Our beautiful lingerie, for example, is handmade’.

All garments are made of more environmentally friendly fabrics than conventional ones. The brands that Sheer Apparel supports work to the highest ethical standards – they have very strong relationships with their manufacturers and, where they do produce further afield, only use fair trade certified factories.
