Saving the world one pint at a time – The Greyhound, Sydenham serves the UK’s greenest pint – just in time for Earth Day
Following years of closure, The Greyhound Pub in Sydenham re-opened this year and heralded the new dawn of a great place for the local community to come together and drink and dine.
The Team behind The Greyhound, however, understands only too well that a pub is only ever as good as the pint that comes from behind its bar, so they are delighted to herald The Greyhound’s latest credentials as the greenest pub in the UK, in terms of its approach to draught cooling and dispensing.
Using the GCS Glycol Cooling System, the bar team can make sure that every pint is served at the temperature that it should be and that it ensures that each drink served is at its optimum quality levels. The chilling system will also be used to chill bottles and wine chillers and can also be used in the kitchen’s cold room.
As well as delivering a superlative drinking experience, The Greyhound can stake their claim to reduce their carbon footprint across all outlets as unique within the UK. This means that no other pub brand is able to demonstrate a greener or fully-comprehensive cooling and distributing system. For the customer, it means that drinks are of the highest quality, but also that the team behind the pub has appreciated and addressed their customers’ desire to be greener.
David Montgomery, the General Manager said " When creating the blueprint for the new Greyhound we were extremely conscious that we had an opportunity to do things properly for everyone. In terms of our customers, we have set the highest bar in drinks quality and experience, while seriously reducing our carbon footprint. In an industry that has become accustomed to sky-high refrigeration costs, we are rightly proud of our decision to think about our local community and the wider global community. We welcome people to come, relax and enjoy their time at The Greyhound, safe in the knowledge that we’re all doing our bit to reduce global warming."
