RetirementMove reveals the best value places to buy a retirement property around Britain
A retirement property’s value can vary considerably based on many factors, including location. Specialist estate agent RetirementMove has examined its property database and identified some key areas where buyers can get great value for their money.
Retirement property prices can range from £50,000 for a one bedroom apartment in East Riding of Yorkshire to £450,000 for a similar property in London. It is therefore important for buyers to understand what value means to them before making any purchasing decisions.
Richard Drew, RetirementMove CEO said: “We’ve learned over the years that price isn’t always the most influential deciding factor in a retirement property purchase. But for the savvy buyer who is flexible about the location where they want to live and has a specific lifestyle in mind, there are some fantastic value properties currently on the market.”
Buy a retirement property by the sea
Tembani Court is in Paignton, Devon. It is located right on the seafront with fantastic views while also close to the town centre. A two bedroom apartment is on the market for just £135,000. This is a great price compared with non-retirement apartments on the market in the area.
Bournemouth and the surrounding area is a fantastic place to retire. It’s also one of the most expensive locations to buy a property in the South of England. A 1 bedroom retirement apartment at Blenheim Court in Christchurch is available for just £125,000. Close to the town centre, hospital, and with easy access to the stunning coastline, this is a great value purchase.
Buy a retirement property surrounded by stunning scenery
There’s a lot to be said for a view. And the UK has some of the best countryside views in the world.
If village life in the heart of the countryside appeals, look no further than Saxon Grange in Chipping Campden in the Cotswolds, strolls through the idyllic local scenery and a small friendly community is right on your doorstep. At 359,900 its price reflects its idyllic location and the facilities provided.
On the other end of the scale, at just £145,000, Barnes Wallis Court is located in the gorgeous village of Howden in East Riding of Yorkshire.
Buy a retirement property you’ll never want to leave
While we wouldn’t recommend a home-bound lifestyle, some of the retirement properties out there have such great facilities you might not want to leave the development.
For example, Hollins Hall in the countryside outside of Harrogate, comprises apartments in a converted late Georgian manor house which is set in 14 acres of gardens and has a swimming pool, restaurant, hairdressing salon, library and pub, not to mention a range of regular social activities organised by staff. At just £230,000, that’s not a bad lifestyle investment.
Honeybourne Gate in central Cheltenham is another example of a development with fantastic facilities, located right in the heart of the town. For the price of £288,995 you get full height communal atrium, activities room, library, dining room and swimming pool.
