Fledgling food company celebrates after securing a catering space at one of the UK's biggest musical festivals
Pot 'O' Rizotto, a street food company, is celebrating after it was offered a space catering at Latitude Festival.
The remarkable news comes just five months after the Colchester-based business, which serves food from the back of a vintage 1954 Citroen HY van called Edith, was started.
The company has been in talks about a lucrative four-week trial at one of London's famous street food markets if it nails the Latitude gig, after impressing local food impresario Harry Japp recently.
Japp, who owns Street Feast, one of the biggest street food company in London after Kerb, also runs several street food markets, including Hawker House, Giant Robot and Dinerama.
Access to cater at Latitude usually requires a lengthy application process, but the Pot 'O' Rizotto team decided to get ahead of the game, inviting Japp and his workers to lunch, where they tantalised a number of tastebuds with a choice of superbly cooked risotto and arancini dishes from their menu.
Beata and Chris, the pair behind Pot 'O' Rizotto, said: “For us, this is a huge step – we're still just starting up and Latitude is one of the biggest festivals there is in the UK. In just five months we have achieved what we could only dream of when starting out – right now, we couldn't be happier. It will be hard work but it will hopefully be worth it as people will start to talk about us a bit more.”
Festival-goers may even get to try something new, as the team continues to experiment with flavours and dishes.
“We're going to be providing arancini – which are basically stuffed rice balls – in a number of different flavours. If you're there, come and try us out!”
