One Man Norfolk Small Business reaches the parts Big Businesses can’t

Norfolk business GY Rope Access is building a reputation for getting into places that major name businesses struggle to access.

Using sophisticated rope systems and nerves of steel the company has undertaken contracts to paint the atrium in Selfridges London Oxford Street store, and repaired rendering on the outside of a 15th floor building at Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge.

George Young from GY Ropes sees it all in a day’s work. ‘People joke that I spend my life just hanging around big buildings, but we have found that what we do is highly specialised and in great demand. Regular contractors used by big businesses simply don’t have the equipment and expertise that we do.’

Much of the work the company undertakes though is not just a no no for those with a fear for heights. Confined spaces are often the reason for the contact, with London Underground and the Thames Barrier Authority both having contracted GY for work in deep ventilation shafts.

‘Providing a total access solution’ is the tag line for the company, and George stands by that promise. ‘As long as we can fit into the space, and have somewhere to attach a rope to, we will quote fro the job,’ he claims.
