Offering beauty treatments with a difference- nurses overcome adversity to swap the ward for award winning laser hair removal

Two registered nurses have overcome initial setbacks in their business on their path to success.

Roma Reynolds-Platt and Deborah Conway-Cook opened their skincare and laser clinic in September 2016, but the initial name of the company created a problem for the two nurses turned business owners.

Now named Secret Skin and Laser Clinic, Roma and Deborah’s nursing background means they can offer a unique care experience alongside the treatments they provide.

Roma said: “Because Deborah and I are nurses we are able to offer additional support to our clients, including support for people who are changing gender, and people with medical conditions.”

“When we started the company we were unfortunate to have some bad business advice, which resulted in us calling it ‘Vogue Skin Clinic’.

“We have since had to change the name because of a dispute with the magazine of the same name, but with our troubles behind us we are now looking forward to a bright future.”

Roma and Deborah’s business, based in Stoke, Stoke-On-Trent, uses the brand new technology and award winning Soprano Ice Platinum machine to offer virtually pain-free hair removal and skin tightening treatments to its customers.

While offering laser hair and skin tightening treatments, the duo are also able to offer bespoke packages too.

Roma and Deborah offer a tailored holistic experience, including a number of different facial experiences, including Dermaplaning Facials.

Deborah added: “Over the past six months we have worked hard on our social media and overall online presence, and we are now starting to break through.

“Last summer we were tending to patients on a hospital ward, and now we are dealing with clients and an ever-increasing bookings diary.

“When we look back over the trouble we have had, we look at it as a lesson learned as we build our business. We are delighted our small business is now going from strength to strength.

"We advocate the Chambers of Commerce for all new small businesses as they are there to help you build your business on the road to success.

Deborah added: "We were warned about business being ruthless, but as nurses we trusted people fully. However, after everything that we have been through with our poor business advice which cost us thousands of pounds and destroyed our trust in people, it`s been a relief to build up trusting and respectful relationships with experienced and knowledgeable people from the Chambers of Commerce."
