Northern Business Lender Recognised as Enterprise Team of the Year

The team at Business Enterprise Fund in Yorkshire and the North East was recognised as our Enterprise team of the Year at this years National Enterprise Network Awards. The commendation is in recognition of their work to bring a new generation of enterprise support champions into the business.

Business Enterprise Fund lend money to small businesses across Yorkshire and the North East when mainstream sources of finance cannot help.

Simon Jackson, Head of Investment at Business and Enterprise Finance recognised that whilst the business had a large team of very experienced lenders, several could see retirement on the horizon and that the business needed to start to build a younger team for the future. This is being achieved by the experienced lenders passing on their knowledge within the business to a new generation who can take the business forward further.

In 2015/16 the business created roles for two of its former apprentices, Katie Revitt (22) and Ellie Hogarth (20), as well as hiring new economics graduate Doug Heseltine (21) to join the Start-Up Loan team. The organisation is forecasted to take a further two graduates into their Investment Graduate Programme early next year.

Business Entperprise Fund were also highly commended in the Enterprise Support Organisation of the Year category.

"We were absolutely thrilled to be recognised at this years awards." said Chief Executive Stephen Waud.

"The BEF are brilliant, although we don't really need an award to tell them that, it's still nice to get one!"
