Nomad Design: Age old craft meets modern Britain

In 2015, textile enthusiast and British maker Georgina Olley founded Nomad Design, a vibrant new interior and lifestyle accessories business that has a focus on ethics and sustainability. The products are distinguished by their beautiful, geometric Central Asian Ikats and a collection of African Mudcloths. Nomad Design aims to channel Georgie’s enthusiasm for consciously sourced materials and demonstrates how traditional craft skills can survive and thrive in a modern world. Georgie is devoted to her design-led atelier in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside where she can be found lovingly hand making each item before sending it out to bring a stylish and colourful energy to British interiors.

Designed to appeal to those who value individuality, Nomad Design’s rapidly growing collection includes timeless pieces which have been exquisitely hand crafted from carefully curated fabrics and patterns, chosen specifically by Georgie for the British market. The collection comprises electric coloured yoga bags; stunning scatter cushions; jewel-coloured lampshades; beautiful padded laptop cases; capacious travel wash bags and perfectly proportioned make up bags.

Nomad Design products are characterised by the striking Ikat patterned fabric and vivid colours used throughout the collection. Hand-woven in the same way for over 1,600 years, Ikat is woven and hand-printed all along the Silk Road, from China to Istanbul and it is this range of Ikats that Georgie meticulously sources and is dedicated to transforming into unique modern accessories for the home and the individual. The result is beautiful everyday pieces which carry a tangible and historic legacy in their fibres.

Georgie’s aim when starting Nomad Design was not only to create pieces that were functional and beautiful but also to draw attention to the dramatic negative effects of industrial textile manufacturing on the rapidly declining traditional skills of people in Great Britain. In a bid to counteract this decline, Nomad Design champions hand-making, celebrates communities working together, and is mindful of clients who are looking for a more ethical and sustainable way of life; which starts with what and how they buy.

With prices starting at just £18 for a Travel Wash Bag and up to £95 for a cushion, www.nomaddesign.co.uk is an ideal online shopping destination for gifts for home birds, wanderlusters, yoga enthusiasts or those in search of a colourful treat for themselves and their home.
