FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 16, 2014 – New interiors brand Monroe Avenue has launched in the UK, bringing a novel approach to antique and original furniture.
The UK-based brand, available online, sells original, vintage and antique furniture fused with a contemporary twist. Designed as an outlet for one-off pieces of furniture that are artfully restored and upholstered in contemporary fabrics, Monroe Avenue is for people who enjoy beautiful yet individual furniture –with affordable price tags.
The brand, founded by sisters Nichola Pergande and Valerie Weisenreder, has entered the market with a focus on seating. The range is eclectic, with pieces from almost every period, design and function, including Victorian wing back and Edwardian nursing chairs, Art Deco club chairs, 1960s pods, cinema seats and massage tables.
Each piece is curated by the Norfolk-based company and then put through a rigorous and artistic Monroe Avenue make-over by local artisans and upholstered in stunning, contemporary wools, linens and velvets. Each item retains its individuality and reflects its proud heritage and design but is infused with a contemporary edge that creates ‘talkablity’.
“People love to talk about their new house purchases but the High Street doesn’t really provide the truly one-off pieces that make your home unique and your friends go ‘wow’,” said Valerie Weisenreder, co-founder. “At Monroe Avenue you can buy beautiful yet exclusive pieces of furniture - be it a hot pink Victorian wingback or purple 1940s cinema seats - but with high street price tags.
“We wanted to give people the sweet spot between shopping in a department-store and an antiques market. Monroe Avenue customers can now do this at the click of a button.”
Monroe Avenue’s seating prices range from £500 for a wool clad Victorian nursing chair to £1,400 for 1940s cinema seats in aubergine velvet, and £2,450 for an antique charcoal grey velvet fluted Porter chair.
Monroe Avenue also sells a range of stunning throw cushions in wool, cotton, velvets and pure silk.
A new range of services for customers and the trade will be launched in the next few months.

Monroe Avenue is… furniture reimagined. We are an exclusive outlet of original, vintage and antique furniture re-imagined for the now. Home to one-off pieces of furniture we curate from across the world, we artfully restore faded, sometimes broken and often dated pieces, and breathe new life into them for the Noughties. Each Monroe Avenue piece retains its individuality, reflects its proud heritage and design but is infused with a contemporary edge that creates ‘talkablity’. We do like to have a bit of fun, so expect the unexpected but also expect the exceptional. And do expect an affordable price tag.
We have begun our journey with all things ‘seating’, with an eclectic range that covers almost every period, design and function, from Victorian wing back and Edwardian nursing chairs, to Art Deco club chairs and 1960s pods, to cinema seats and massage tables.
We are Norfolk based but retail online on www.monroeavenue.co.uk and also sell into interior designers, boutique hotels and bars in the UK and internationally.
