Modest Fashionwear Launches on Desi High Street

Modest Fashionwear available on UK's online ethnic niche marketplace ‘Desi High Street’

UK – November 30th, 2016 –Founded by entrepreneur Kuljit Thiaray, Desi High Street (www.desihighstreet.com) is an online marketplace for UK based independent retailers who sell ethnic niche products that have their origins from South Asia or the Middle East.

Having spotted a gap in the market as a frustrated customer, Kuljit left her role as a Senior Lecturer to pursue her business idea. Kuljit is dedicated to bringing this key UK market online to make British Asian shopping easier and more accessible, and she was recently a Pitchfest finalist at VentureFest Yorkshire:

“Our vision is to bring the UK's ethnic niche market online, on to one website. We have set out to support small businesses in the process and to help them with their ecommerce strategy. This market has been successful in India and in Pakistan, but in the UK retailers have not fully embraced e-commerce. Desi High Street is simply responding to the changing needs of customers and the fact that the market has not kept up with them. Desi High Street offers home based, online and community based businesses an additional channel to sell their merchandise on a bespoke marketplace.”

The protoype platform was launched in December 2015 and after a period of market research it was refreshed and relaunched in April 2016. Recently, the well-established Yorkshire business, Brands By Bombay Stores has joined Desi High Street as it’s first anchor selling partner.

“Having Brands By Bombay Stores join Desi High Street as an anchor partner is exciting. It’s great to have such a well-known Yorkshire based retailer express an interest in us. ” continues Kuljit, “ We are delighted that they have chosen to showcase their designer kurta's modestwear clothing collection on our platform. Modest fashionwear is a growing market which is recognized by companies and designers such as Dolce & Gabanna. The modest capsule collection from Brands By Bombay Stores is an affordable and stylish modern range which will appeal to many and we are thrilled to be able to offer it to our customer base.”

Desi High Street is an online platform where customers can buy a myriad of goods, from spices to saree's from a range of UK based shops selling items that have their roots and origins in South Asia or the Middle East. With over thirty retailers signed up , Desi High Street has over a thousand products on its site and is making the market more accessible to all.

“We have huge ambitions for Desi High Street and as such we will shortly be raising investment to support our plans. We would like to be seen as the British Asian version of Amazon Marketplace. We want to be able to support new and upcoming British Asian brands and labels as well as the established retail businesses, and to ultimately be the one-stop online shop for all British Asian goods.”
