Perpetuo presents… VOYAGES OF THE SEA
6:45pm doors open | 7:30pm concert starts
22nd September 2016, Dry Berth at Cutty Sark, Greenwich
Celebrating the launch of Ensemble Perpetuo’s second season, VOYAGES OF THE SEA brings you some of the most beautiful chamber music in the unique setting of the Dry Berth of the Cutty Sark in Greenwich.
From the cliffs of Dover to the tempestuous southern Ocean, Ensemble Perpetuo will take you on a poetic and musical journey exploring the beauty and unforgiving nature of our seas, and will tell the tales of the courage and love of those who have worked and sailed across it.
This concert will feature music by Debussy, Roxanna Panufnik, Sally Beamish, Cecilia McDowall and Malcolm Arnold. Ensemble Perpetuo will be joined by narrator, Richard Stilgoe, and conductor, Alasdair Nicolson, for a performance of the Upside Down Sailor by Roxanna Panufnik. This piece is inspired by the real life events of Tony Bullimore who survived for days in his capsized boat during a round-the-world sailing challenge.
The London Photo Festival will also be curating a special exhibition of photographs inspired by the sea for this event.
The concert is programmed by Ensemble Perpetuo and Royal Museums Greenwich and part of Totally Thames that runs from 1-30 September.
