Local toddler raises £1k for baby charity

Three-year-old Gracie Cashmore, from Silverstone in Northamptonshire, raised an incredible £1000 for Tommy’s – the baby charity that funds research into miscarriages, stillbirth and premature birth.

Little Gracie raised this phenomenal amount by doing a sponsored swim at The Gateway School in Tiffield with local children’s swim school, Water Babies.

The work done by Tommy’s is close to the heart of mum, Rachel, who suffered miscarriages herself in recent years. “I am so proud of Gracie – she worked so hard to raise so much money, with a little help from Mummy and Daddy. Tommy’s is such an incredible charity, they help so many people and it’s lovely that we can give something back. People were so generous and we want to thank all of the people who donated, from the bottom of our hearts.”

Water Babies welcomes 1750 little swimmers every week across Bucks and Beds and, of those hundreds of babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers, Gracie raised the most! To say thank you for all of her hard work, owner, Tamsin Brewis, and her team presented Gracie with a goody bag full of Peppa Pig themed prizes.

“Like most three-year olds, Gracie is Peppa Pig mad, so she couldn’t have been happier with her goodies. Jamie from the Water Babies team even came all the way to our house to hand deliver them. I can’t tell you how proud I am – she worked so hard and, not usually the most confident of swimmers, she did so well with her sponsored swim,” enthused mum, Rachel.

Thanks to the hard work of little ones like Gracie, Water Babies Bucks and Beds raised a whopping £37,000 for Tommy’s this year. Tamsin says she and her team of teachers feel honoured to teach such supportive and charitable swimmers:

“My thanks go out to all of the wonderful children, parents and grandparents who worked so hard to support our fundraising efforts for Tommy’s. We cannot stress enough the importance of the work that this charity does. They can provide so much care and support for grieving parents, and they even provide new parents with the best possible information and advice. Tommy’s relies on charitable donations and the £1000 that Gracie raised will do so much for so many people.”

About Water Babies

In a nutshell, we teach water confidence and safety skills to babies and toddlers. However, we're about so much more besides. Our classes are great for making new friends, helping to enhance the bonding process, having fun... and seeing the utter thrill of your little one gliding underwater towards you. In the last three years alone we know our lessons were directly responsible for saving the lives of ten little ones who otherwise might have tragically drowned. That makes us very proud. And we like raising money for other babies. To date, we've raised over £750,000 for Tommy's. And we're aiming to raise another £200,000 for them (possibly!) this coming summer.
