Local renovation business owners give loos a new lease of life at Tilbury Docks

21 November 2017 14:18

Having served major distribution and logistics organisations across the world for over 130 years, it was about time that the toilets at Tilbury Docks were shown some TLC.

Paul and Lynne Moore, from kitchen and bathroom renovation company, Granite Transformations, in Hornchurch, recently renovated the toilets at Tilbury Docks International Cruise Terminal. This project sees a further step in the renovations set to take place at this famous maritime location, with millions being invested in the site between now and 2021. Upon completion, the industrial dock is set to cover around 70 acres, welcoming thousands of visitors weekly.

With approximately 12.5 million tonnes of cargo passing through the port every year, footfall is at an all-time high. Around 3,000 cargo ships access the port annually, which – unsurprisingly - amounts to a lot of ‘wear and tear’ on the facilities.

Paul Moore, who has run Granite Transformations in Hornchurch, along with his wife, since 2004, enjoyed working with the team on this project, “The Port of Tilbury is such a renowned landmark in the area. When we were both approached to design a concept for this update, we jumped at the chance. Obviously, this was quite an unusual project for us to take on but it’s been refreshing to do something a little different. We hope the patrons of Tilbury Port think these new rest rooms look as nice as we think they do.”

Earlier this year, it was announced that around £1billion would be invested in the expansion of Tilbury Docks. As the UK’s third-largest container terminal, it only seemed right to start in the one place visitors usually frequent upon arrival.
