Local food business shortlisted in prestigious Eat Game Awards

Small catering firm Country Box Ltd, which serves high-quality food in Norwich from a converted horse box, has been shortlisted in the prestigious Eat Game Awards.

The UK-wide initiative celebrates ‘wild’ British produce and recognises outstanding contributions to the way game is prepared and consumed. The public nominated organisations for each category, and the winners were announced at a ceremony at London’s Canary Wharf this autumn.

Country Box Ltd was nominated in the category for Best Game Farmers’ Market Stall, and owner Wayne Harvey said: “Obviously we were delighted to have been shortlisted for such a prestigious awards scheme – and next time we’re determined we’ll walk away with one of the awards!

“It means so much to us, especially as it’s consumer driven and organisations are nominated by the public.

"If we were to eat game at the same rate as chicken we would eat the whole seasons worth of meat in just 8 days but instead thousands of birds are going to landfills."

Mr Harvey set up Country Box Ltd in 2014 in a bid to provide quality street food in Norwich. The business has evolved since then to cater for weddings and other events, both private and corporate.

The caterer also has ambitious expansion plans to cater for more sit-down events, and will be launching a gourmet burger bar in Norfolk.

While already selling things like venison burgers, Mr Harvey also plans to offer even more game in the future. However, other kinds of food are also served, including a cheese board buffet which is ideal for wedding evening receptions, and chicken and pomegranate or feta and courgette wraps.

All dishes have a British countryside theme, and are cooked and presented to a high standard.
