FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

If you know Askham Village Community, then you know it's a beautiful place, a haven for young and old with any manner of care or rehab need. If you don't know Askham, then you may be surprised to find that one of the country's leading care communities sits on your doorstep in rural Cambridgeshire.

Currently home to more than 80 residents, Askham is a group of specialist homes, set in seven stunning acres of countryside. Teams of highly-trained and experienced care staff provide round the clock care for people with dementia and those with long-term neurological needs as well as offering leading neurorehabilitation and the most dignified, compassionate palliative care.

The family-owned community is now celebrating the opening of a fifth building on the complex which will mean the village's 81 residents can be joined by over 30 new community members.

A community in every sense of the word, Askham residents have on-site services and amenities that are designed to make the whole place feel like a small, friendly village in which to live. Facilities include a café, a shop, sensory landscaped gardens and a leisure therapy centre. Open to the public, the gardens and café encourage integration and a sense of independence that is unique.

"We pride ourselves on enabling our residents to live the most rewarding and fulfilled life possible, whatever their age, mental or physical conditions. This means so much more than just providing the very best in nurse-led care throughout each of our homes. It means making friends, socialising and receiving visitors. It means having outdoor spaces, a café and leisure facilities. It means feeling safe and secure with a sense of independence and being at home. It means being a community," explains Operations Director and family owner, Aliyyah-Begum Nasser.

In addition to being one of the UK's only combined specialist care environments, Askham Village Community is one of the area's largest employers. With the opening of the new home, more than 50 new jobs have been created, many of which will be filled by local professionals in care and nursing and those looking for a rewarding career.

"As much as we value the health and wellbeing of our residents, it's just as important to us that our staff are happy, feel respected and valued. Because only then can great care and support be delivered. We're proud to have held our 'Investors in People' accreditation for over 15 years; a testament to the strong culture of inclusion and community here at Askham Village. Over 15% of our staff recently received a 'long service award' in recognition of their loyalty to Askham for over 5 years," adds Aliyyah.

Askham also has a specially built training centre for care workers. The board are committed to developing staff skills and enabling people to progress in their career. Six studio apartments on site are available for staff to use for comfort and convenience - and make it easier for specialists from outside the area to support residents on site. The result is that Askham Village Community is not just a centre of excellence for care and a wonderful place to live - it's a great place to work too!
