Local business owner shortlisted for Startups Franchisee of the Year 2017

A man who started his own business just three years ago has been shortlisted for the Startups Franchisee of the Year 2017. Chris Spratling, 48, from Wamborough, near Swindon, started his ActionCOACH business in Callow Park in 2015 and in just two years has advised over 500 business owners.

Having already made his name as managing director and CEO of a number of blue-chip publishing companies, serial entrepreneur Chris Spratling is now passing on his years of expertise and acumen to business owners looking for success of their own. As a franchisee of ActionCOACH, operating under the Chalkhill Blue moniker, Spratling is committed to creating the South West’s leading coaching practice and has invested in a 1,500 square foot purpose-built office to help him achieve his goal.

Priding itself on the fact that all its coaches are successful business owners with hands-on experience of launching, growing and successfully exiting businesses, Spratling’s company has already made in-roads in helping small and medium-sized companies. In just the first 18 months of its existence, ActionCOACH Chalkhill Blue has run over 25 free business education seminars and advised over 500 entrepreneurs. In fact, the work of his coaches has supported its clients, and the economy, by facilitating the creation of 28 new full-time jobs.

More recently, Spratling’s business has been shortlisted to run a three-year advisory programme for Bath & North-East Somerset businesses – funded by the European Economic Development Fund.

He said: "I’m delighted to be in the shortlist for Startups Franchisee of the Year. This recognition is only possible because of the great progress our clients have achieved through working with us."

Startups Awards’ illustrious judging panel includes high-profile entrepreneurs, business leaders, and investors. Dragons’ Den investor Touker Suleyman, natural health and wellbeing expert Liz Earle MBE, Innocent Drinks and JamJar Investments co-founder Jon Wright, are just a few of the outstanding names. They felt Chris was worthy of finalist status as his business is benefitting local businesses, creating jobs and giving a boost to communities.

Shortlisted from hundreds of entries, there are 77 exceptional Startups Awards finalists this year from a cross-sector of backgrounds, businesses, and regions across the UK. From children’s entertainment and beauty to tech and finance, finalists represent the country’s diverse and thriving start-up community. Chris will attend the 14th annual ceremony taking place on November 30 at The Royal Garden Hotel, hosted by Oli Barrett MBE.
