JOY Yoga presents Simrit Kaur Khalsa: Celebrated Artist on the World Music Scene Debuts in London, 28-29 May

May 28-29 Chart-topping vocalist and songwriter Simrit Kaur Khalsa comes to London for a concert and sound workshop. Khalsa has traveled extensively and her music has a distinctive sound that reflects musical influences from across the world. Through her inaugural European tour in 2017 “Songs of Resilience”, Simrit Kaur is celebrating that which we all have in common: the human heart, the human blood, the human voice, and the universal language of music that brings us all together.

Khalsa is originally from Athens, Greece, later adopted into the United States and raised in South Carolina by another Greek family. Simrit was born into a lineage of beloved Greek women singers, going all the way through her great-grandmother. Drawing on the harmonic beauty of the Greek Orthodox chants she grew up with, adding the pulse and melodic sensibilities of West African traditions she studied intensely, Simrit and her ensemble tease out distinct facets of devotional poetry and the intimate ardors of the spirit on “Songs of Resilience.”

Songs of Resilience is her fifth album released and it has topped World Music Charts including iTunes at #1 and Billboard Music at #3. With her enchanting voice and music Simrit has established her place in the world of Kundalini and yogic music.

Songs of Resilience Global Unity Tour stops in London 28-29 May. Simrit and her ensemble will play older favorites as well as the newer songs. Simrit performs alongside Salif Bamakora on kora, Tripp Dudley on percussion, Shannon Hayden on cello & guitar, and Jared May on bass guitar.

Simrit is travelling through Europe from April through May. Performances stops include the Baltics, Greece, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Nordic Countries, and Spain. London is the last stop on the tour.

“First of all, I’m such a fan of Simrit. The first time I saw her live I thought – wow she’s kind of punk rock. I don’t know why I thought that, but that’s the element that drew me to exploring her music. Her sense of melody, her energy, and her musicality set her apart from the rest. Simrit, to me, is the voice of this new day and age.” — Belinda Carlisle

“Some artists can bring true commitment to age-old meditations, urging everyone from pop stars to theater audiences to fall in love with the words of South Asian sages. Some artists have that presence that both highly engages and soothes, an ear that can hear the resonances that bridge continents and souls. Vocalist and songwriter Simrit, born in Athens, Greece, adopted and raised in the American South, is one of these artists.” --Rock Paper Scissors
