JAMBO: New London Start-up joins Mayor Sadiq Khan on UK trade mission to New York and Chicago
Jambo chosen to show off the best of London’s innovative tech start-ups.
October 5th 2016 (London, UK): The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, along with London & Partners has returned to London following the Mayor’s International Business delegation to the United States. Led by Deputy Mayor for Business and Chairman of London and Partners, Rajesh Agrawal, the week-long mission saw 30 of London’s most innovative start-ups connect with top corporations, venture capitalists, and US based tech firms to fuel growth on both sides of the Atlantic.
Among the cohort of selected entrepreneurs was Laura Stembridge, CEO of Jambo. Jambo, a mobile business-networking platform, was thrilled to have represented the UK as an innovation leader. Laura was “...excited to showcase how Jambo helps make relationship building and networking in business more human.”
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan was keen to emphasise London’s place as a global tech hub, and a leading destination for US companies looking to expand overseas. His core take-away was that despite a world full of uncertainties, “London is open, and London will always be open”.
The mission was a huge success. Many new business leads and investment offers flowed from the Trade Mission. While many of the entrepreneurs returned to their day job, Laura is now busy preparing for more pitching in Hong Kong where, after winning the Alibaba UK Creative Cloud Competition in June, she will compete against seven other start-ups from around the world in a global pitch competition in a bid to gain future investment. It doesn’t stop for this young female entrepreneur from London.
On her role at the helm of a busy technology company and on the excitement of Hong Kong Stembridge said “There has never been a better time for young women to get involved in technology and business, the amount of support available for female founders is at an all time high. Winning the UK Alibaba start-up contest has opened doors for us creating unique opportunities in which we get to showcase Jambo on the world stage. The US Trade Mission proved to be exceptionally fruitful, I’m excited to see how things unfold at the Alibaba Global Contest in China”.
