It’s take-off for Yorkshire’s first vintage aviation themed café bar

Former air hostess turned entrepreneur, Lucie Mountain, opened the doors to a vintage, aviation themed café bar in East Yorkshire on 2nd December 2017.

Based in Beverley, The Cockpit Café draws inspiration from the 1950’s and Lucie’s passion for travel.

With more than six years’ industry experience in the food and drink sector and 6 years experience in aviation for Eastern Airways, Lucie’s new venture is a quirky, vintage-style venue, serving food and drink from all over the world.

East Yorkshire’s award-winning town crier, Michael Wood officially announced the opening of The Cockpit Café at 10am on Saturday and welcomed many visitors through the venue’s doors.

In the evening, the innovative café transformed into a 1950’s style bar, serving a range of unique alcoholic beverages including craft beer, cocktails, wines and spirits. Guests also enjoyed live music from local vintage songstress, Ruth Getz.

A glamorous time for air travel, the 1950’s is a key element of The Cockpit Café experience. This, alongside the café’s ‘trolley dolly’ waitresses and olde-worlde décor, transports customers to destinations around the globe.

Lucie has recruited a strong team of 18 local individuals to help bring her new venture to life and partnered with independent suppliers, including Atom Beers and Stokes Coffee to stock its own-brand coffee.

Commenting on the launch of The Cockpit Cafe, founder Lucie Mountain said:

“I am incredibly passionate about travel and the food and drink industry, so The Cockpit Café is a perfect amalgamation of everything that I love. I chose the 1950s as a theme because it was such a colourful and fun era.

“My gran, best known as ‘Super Gran!’, who is 92 years old, was also the inspiration behind The Cockpit Café. Super Gran is my business advisor, life coach, florist and all-round legend!! So she was the only person that I wanted to cut the ribbon at The Cockpit Café’s official opening on Saturday.

“I wanted to create something completely unique to other food and drink venues in Yorkshire. The Cockpit Cafe has a high-end look and feel; we’ve had some amazing feedback from customers already and the team and I are incredibly excited to watch the journey unfold as we welcome even more guests on board.”
