FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Family-run business The Tartan Blanket Co. is introducing the world to the Scottish version of hygge this winter: colsie.
The Old Scots word for cosy, colsie (pronounced kol-zee) is defined as “the habit of embracing winter darkness and finding comfort and warmth in life’s simple pleasures”.
Colsie echoes the Danish art of hygge, a concept that the UK has embraced in recent years, taking media and social media alike by storm since 2015. It emphasizes that Scots, like the Danes, have their own traditions for greeting the darker, colder months through sincere closeness, simple comforts, and savouring life’s little luxuries.
The Tartan Blanket Co.’s ‘The Colsie Collection’ takes inspiration from these traditions. With designs incorporating shades of forest green reminiscent of Scotland’s dense woodlands, frosty quiet greys, warm shades of creamy oats, and cobbled stone streets, the collection hopes to make the colsie feeling tangible.
In addition to luxuriously soft blankets and scarves, the collection also includes lanterns (essential for capturing colsie candlelight), minimalistic Christmas decorations, and simple weaving kits for passing time before the fire.
“We wanted to create a collection that would inspire people to be present, invite togetherness, and make time for the people and things that soothe their souls,” said Emma Macdonald, co-founder of The Tartan Blanket Co. “It’s everything we love about winter, like the simple pleasure of snuggling up in a warm blanket with a great book and a cup of hot chocolate.”
“We hope people feel inspired to discover what colsie means to them, whether it’s the hug of a soft lambswool blanket or an afternoon walk around the loch with the ones you love.”
People are invited to share their colsie scenes with The Tartan Blanket Co. using #colsie on social media. The full collection is available online, shipping worldwide, at tartanblanketco.com.
