Home made pet food scoops international awards

With much discussion about Britain’s lack of manufacturing being done at home and being outsourced abroad, as well as the shortage of ”truly British products”, it is a rarity to find a British company who has found success within the UK and abroad. Pooch & Mutt, the UK’s leading premium health food company for dogs, is proving this all wrong and representing Britain on a global level. The small company has recently won 2 prestigious awards including the SMARTA Made in Britain Award and The Great British Manufacturing Entrepreneur of the Year, for Pooch & Mutt’s founder, Guy Blaskey. This completes a hat-trick of awards for 2014, which also includes the Gold Award for packaging at The European Design Awards. Pooch and Mutt’s manufacturing is all done in the UK, including British premium ingredients and designs curated by British talent.

The SMARTA Awards are the largest, publicly voted business award in the UK. The Great British Entrepreneur Awards took place at the renowned Old Billingsgate, the Awards were a celebration of entrepreneurial spirit, proving that Britain means business and entrepreneurialism is thriving.

Pooch & Mutt has won the SMARTA Made in Britain award and The Great British Entrepreneur Manufacturing Award, proving business is booming in the UK. SMARTA has described its winners as “celebrating those manufacturers and exporters trading globally. These businesses are crucial to the economy and prove that brand Britain and UK Export is thriving”. Pooch & Mutt has experienced 100% year on year growth over the last two years, with a great focus on export. Success has been great in the UK, and also abroad as Pooch & Mutt is available in multiple chains in Finland, Holland, Spain, Greece and the US to name a few. Within the UK, Pooch & Mutt is stocked in Waitrose, Ocado, Pets at Home, Amazon and various independent pet boutiques and vet clinics. Owner, Guy Blaskey, has a considerable presence in the pet industry, speaking at numerous pet trade events in the country, discussing the importance of high quality nutrition and marketing for British small business owners.

Blaskey said, “We are thrilled to have won both of these awards. It has been a fantastic year for Pooch & Mutt. We have experienced huge growth in the last 18 months, which looks set to continue. The team have all worked incredibly hard and delivered the results that have enabled us to win. It is fantastic to see the team, the products and the brand getting the recognition that they deserve.”

A large increase in export demand has come from the Far East, with countries such as Singapore, South Korea and Hong Kong showing great demand for British made products. Export has also expanded to Turkey, with over 78 stores stocking Pooch and Mutt products in less than 3 weeks. It is clear that British manufacturing is alive and well, as Britain is home to some of the greatest entrepreneurial minds and resources. Pooch and Mutt has also found success in Scandinavia, with listings in Finland’s largest pet retailer, Musti ja Mirri, in 100 stores in Finland.

The range of natural treats, grain-free foods and supplements are all made in the UK to the highest standards and are sold throughout the UK. The judges said, “As a nation of animal lovers, it’s unsurprising that this business has really taken off. Next stop: world domination”.

As well as winning the SMARTA Made in Britain Award and GB Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, Pooch & Mutt has also been awarded The Ethical Award from The Ethical Companies Organisation and was shortlisted in the Grocer’s New Product Awards. Blaskey started Pooch and Mutt in 2007, after his own dog was diagnosed with a hip condition and he saw a need to create a product to help with this.
