FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On the 9th of December, 10 educational representatives from South Korea visited Havering College.
All were from top organisations including the Department of Education, Further and Higher Education Schools, National Universities and Business Corporations. They were very keen to see just how a successful, advanced college in the UK is run.
On arrival the delegates received a warm welcome from the principal Maria Thompson. This was followed by specially tailored presentations regarding their respective subjects of interest, Construction and Engineering.
One of the college’s star students, Jaye Beardsell, attended and was mentioned during the construction presentation. Jaye started as a Level 2 Bricklayer, has completed a level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma and is now thinking of enrolling on a degree course. She is an excellent demonstration of the student journey and what Havering College students can achieve. Overall, the presentations were very well received by the delegates and inspired many interesting comments and questions.
Having completed this segment of the visit, the delegates were then invited to take a tour of the campus. The college was its usual hive of activity and every department visited showcased its specialism perfectly. The delegates appeared suitably impressed with both the commitment of the students and the facilities they enjoyed. One delegate commented wistfully that he wished his students in South Korea could enjoy the same level of equipment that the Havering College students could.
This experience was so much more than simply a visit from another country’s representatives; it was the marking of the start of an international friendship between two nations. South Korea and Havering College have begun a relationship that will flourish and hopefully allow in the future, similar encounters to the benefit of both.
