Global award win for Tutor Doctor business changing the course of children’s lives

Rob and Lynne Kerrison, owners of Tutor Doctor Cambridge, are celebrating this week after being crowned ‘Franchisee of the Year’ at the brand’s annual global conference. Held in Canada from 26th to 28th July, the three-day extravaganza, named ‘Dream, Believe, Achieve’ recognises the outstanding achievements of Tutor Doctor franchisee across the world.

Widely recognised as the fastest growing in-home tutoring franchise, Tutor Doctor provides one-to-one tutoring, directly into the home either in person or via a state-of-the-art online learning platform. The company’s core belief is that ‘thinking caps’ come in all shapes and sizes. Instead of trying to impose a single style and method of learning, the brand’s ethos is that with personal, tailored assistance, everyone can learn.

The Kerrison’s collected their award at a black-tie event at The Sheraton in Downtown Toronto, Canada. The annual event, currently in its ninth year, was attended by over 200 franchisees from Canada, the US, the UK and South Africa. Rob said he couldn’t quite believe it when he and wife, Lynne, were announced as the winners of the prestigious title!

“It was a shock I have to admit. Out of all the Tutor Doctor businesses in all the world – and there’s over 500 of them – we won! We’re delighted and so proud to have been recognised for our efforts. We’re incredibly passionate about what we do and we genuinely care about the students, the families and the tutors that we work with. And I think it shows,”

Frank Milner, President of Tutor Doctor, praised Rob and Lynne for their unwavering commitment to the brand, stating that the award celebrated their ongoing contributions to the network whilst simultaneously forging one of the most successful single unit Tutor Doctor franchises in the world.

“This award recognises the franchisee who has led our company to outstanding business success and innovation and has consistently demonstrated community commitment and support. Rob and Lynne are seen as role models because of their exceptional leadership within the Tutor Doctor family. They are widely respected throughout the organisation for their achievements, and are seen as leaders in their own business community in the UK.”

Since launching the business in 2010 the couple have worked with over 2000 families in Cambridge and partnered with 15 local schools to provide one-to-one support outside the classroom. They are both extremely passionate about giving back to the community, supporting families and charitable causes across the region. Not to mention becoming the ‘go-to’ people for implementing new initiatives into the Tutor Doctor network, mentoring new business owners and being an integral part of the brand’s strategic project teams.

Reflecting on their global award win, Lynne says that 2018 has been a year packed with success for the Tutor Doctor Cambridge team: “Earlier this year we were awarded preferred provider status with Cambridge County Council on their Alternative Provision List. This is something which we’re incredibly proud of as it highlights our exemplary approach to education as well as making us even more accessible for families across the region through local schools. We also had 47 tutors nominated for the National Tutor of the Year awards in June, a record for the Tutor Doctor network. For me, that was incredibly satisfying as it’s students and their families who vote so it’s a clear signal that we’re doing a good job!”

Over the last eight years, the Kerrison’s drive to empower students within Cambridge’s prestigious educational arena has seen the business, and its students, flourish. In fact, for the last four years, the business has ranked in the top five Tutor Doctor franchises in the world. Rob puts much of the business’ success down to the support of their team, including their dedicated office staff and the 200+ tutors who work with them.

“Although Tutor Doctor Cambridge is part of a global network, it’s what we can do to positively impact the local community which drives us forward. Winning Tutor Doctor Franchisee of the Year was an incredible way to recognise our efforts, but we wouldn’t be able to provide such a high standard of tutoring without our team and the tutors we work with. We’re both so proud of our achievements and myself and Lynne are excited to see what the future holds for us.”
