Free Business School Created 105 New Businesses in Greater Manchester This Year

The PopUp Business School has come to the Greater Manchester area this year and helped create 105 new businesses. The PopUp Business School works with those furthest from the job market, teaching them an alternative way to start businesses without writing businesses plans or taking on debt to do so. The school is open to all and free to attend thanks to the support of local partners.

Alan Donegan co founder of PopUp Business School said "Too many people are being told they need lots of money to start businesses, which just isn't true. It's our aim to show people they can start businesses with nothing and be successful doing something they actually enjoy!"

Alan said "We're looking forward to building upon our legacy here in Manchester and inspiring more people to become self-employed in 2019 and beyond. The North of England has historically been a hotbed for industrial growth and we're hoping we can unlock the next generation of everyday businesses who are the lifeblood of this wonderful city."

Tony Cottam, Head of Community Investment at Bolton at Home said "Business has changed, however, the way we do business advice is still stuck in the 1950's, PopUp Business School's approach is far more accessible to our customers"

Deborah Tyrer, a student from the Wigan event said "PopUp Business School is a great thing for the GM, we are all hoping this is the start of something in Wigan, which will help the community"

Events took place this year from February to November in South Manchester, Trafford, Wigan, Rochdale and Bolton.

Partners included: Trafford Council, Wigan Council, Rochdale Council, Your Housing Group, Onward Homes, Regenda, Great Places, Rochdale Boroughwide Housing, Bolton at Home, Trafford Housing Trust, Irwell Valley, The Department of Work and Pensions and UnLtd.
