A Yorkshire-based online car purchasing company has won a national award to celebrate Great British entrepreneurs.

Tom Marley, founder and managing director of Wakefield and Bradford-based The Car Buying Group has been announced as the winner in NatWest’s prestigious The Great British Entrepreneur Awards in the Scale-up Entrepreneur category.

The awards, which took place at The Imperial War Museum in Manchester on 14th November 2017, aim to celebrate successful entrepreneurs who have demonstrated a hunger for opportunity and a growth mindset.

Tom was among thousands of businesses that entered the awards. The Scale-up Entrepreneur category in The Great British Entrepreneur Awards focuses on fast-growth, scaling businesses that are committed to economic growth by driving job creation and boosting revenue.

The Car Buying Group, which was also named the North’s fastest growing technology company in Tech North’s Northern Tech 100 league table earlier this year and has experienced an impressive 191% increase in growth since their inception, provides customers with a fair, fast and hassle-free way to sell a car online.
Having created 25 jobs in the three years since forming, the company is set to continue its rapid expansion over the coming years, aiming to create jobs for a further 25 people before 2019.
Commenting on the award win, Tom Marley said:

“I am over the moon to have been awarded scale-up entrepreneur of the year. The last three years have been a rollercoaster ride, with ups, downs and many learning curves. Receiving this award validates that all the work the team and I have put in to build the business has really payed off, it’s fantastic to receive recognition for efforts.”

“The other nominees in the category were extremely strong, I am humbled to have been announced as the winner amongst such tough competition.”

Founder of the NatWest Great British Entrepreneur Awards, Francesca James, said: “The judges this year have had an incredibly hard job in narrowing down winners from such an impressive shortlist. Each and every one of the winning entries has made a huge impact on entrepreneurship in their region and the wider UK economy.

Francesca added: “We’d like to thank all of the entrepreneurs who entered this year and send huge congratulations to Tom and everyone at The Car Buying Group. We look forward to seeing what the next year brings for you.”

Gordon Merrylees, Head of Entrepreneurship for NatWest, said: “We are incredibly proud to support these important awards. It has been so inspiring to see the number and calibre of entries this year, which proves that the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in Yorkshire.

I want to extend my huge congratulations to all the winners of this year’s categories and hope that their businesses continue to grow in the future.”
