Emerging Payments Association advisor and MD of Global Processing Services named first European winner of prestigious Paybefore Industry Achiever Award

2017 Pay Awards recognise first non-US winner, Suresh Vaghjiani, MD of GPS and EPA Advisory Board member, for pioneering PayTech innovation

London, UK. 4th July 2017. Suresh Vaghjiani, Managing Director of Global Processing Services (GPS) Ltd. and elected Emerging Payments Association (EPA) Advisory Board member, has been announced as the first ever non-US recipient of the Paybefore Industry Achiever Award at the Power of Prepaid Conference in Washington DC.

GPS, founded nine years ago, was initially an underdog in global payments but has since become the largest prepaid provider in Europe, with clients across Australia, the Middle East and Asia. The company has also just signed with the largest programme manager in the United States, taking GPS technology truly global.

The award judging panel, made up of Jeremy Kuiper from The Bancorp, Judie Rinearson from K&L Gates and Stefan Happ from American Express, commented:

“This award is given to individuals who have worked tirelessly to advance the prepaid and emerging payments industry. Suresh has pioneered many firsts in the industry, including the first contactless prepaid card in the UK and Germany, the first contactless wristwatch in the UK and the first App-controlled NFC solution for iPhone in Europe. Suresh is passionate about encouraging diversity in the burgeoning PayTech industry and with his tireless work alongside associations educating the industry, Suresh exemplifies what this award is all about.”

“GPS is the best kept secret in the industry, processing payments for the likes of Starling Bank, Revolut, Monzo, Curve and Kerv Wearables. Suresh is an innovator with a track record of supporting the industry as project mentor of the Emerging Payments Association’s International Trade project and is someone who regularly engages with regulators and policy‐makers, recently leading a fintech mission to Mexico on behalf of the UK government.”

Suresh commented: “It’s an honour to be recognised by my peers at the Pay Awards 2017 and in particular to be the first to take this beyond the borders of the US.I hope this achievement helps raise international awareness of the fantastic innovations taking place in the Europe – something I am pleased to promote with my esteemed colleagues at the Emerging Payments Association.”
