East Staffordshire Business receives grant from Business Growth Programme

15 May 2018 09:30

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

East Staffordshire Borough Council has welcomed news that a business grant awarded to an East Staffordshire business via the Business Growth Programme has led to the creation of 9 jobs.

Based in Bramshall, East Staffordshire, Pym and Wildsmith is a long-standing, successful company established for 38 years in the borough. It is one of the Midlands’ leading specialist industrial finishing companies supplying high quality services to a range of blue chip customers from across the automotive, transport and industrial sectors. Alongside this, they also offer bespoke work to a range of different customers.

Following a successful application, Pym and Wildsmith (https://www.pymandwildsmith.co.uk) was awarded in the region of £76k via the Business Growth Programme through the Green Bridge Programme.

Part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and supported by East Staffordshire Borough Council, a key partner in the scheme, the Green Bridge programme is designed to strengthen the local economy, and support a range of measures to create green benefits, for example, energy efficiency, waste management, recycling and renewables.

Already a growing business, Green Bridge has helped Pym and Wildsmith to physically grow. The project is going to help Pym and Wildsmith create 9 jobs, providing a significant boost to the local area.

Green Bridge has helped Pym and Wildsmith (https://www.pymandwildsmith.co.uk) to improve processes within the business and increase productivity and capacity, alongside helping to create a much cleaner environment to work within.

The Green Bridge project included a wide range of measures. This has included new filtration and lighting. The refurbishment has impacted on how existing and new customers view Pym and Wildsmith, as along with receiving a high quality product, they can now physically see that it is a successful, thriving business. A further benefit of the grant has been to help improve motivation and staff morale, as people see the business improving and growing.

Penny Sargeant, Project Manager for the programme from Pym and Wildsmith, said: “Before applying for Green Bridge, we thought there was no point in applying for grants. However, after being through the process, I would definitely encourage other businesses to apply. So for other businesses out there, if there is something you want to develop within your business, you must grab with both hands the opportunity to apply for a grant.

“The support from Birmingham City Council and East Staffordshire Borough Council has been amazing. We thought the process would be scary but it has been totally the opposite. We were helped throughout and were able to talk everything through with the teams. We had always just thought we would never get a grant or be successful. It’s great that these schemes are out there; they are good for businesses, helping to support them with their dreams. All in all it was a very positive, smooth experience”.

Councillor Julia Jessel, Deputy Leader for Regeneration at East Staffordshire Borough Council, said: “It’s great to see another East Staffordshire businesses taking advantage of the numerous grants that are available to all types of business across the borough. This grant has not only had a positive impact on the business directly but has created 9 additional jobs for the Bramshall area.

“Applying for a grant can seem daunting but it’s pleasing to hear that the support the Council and other partners offered alleviated any concerns the applicant had prior to their application.”

The ERDF Business Growth Programme is available to businesses in East Staffordshire, with grants available from between £10- £167k. For further information contact me (Mike Raybone) on 0870 062 8760.
