East Midlands to host workplace wellbeing summit
Over 200 business leaders from across the region are set to discuss a wide range of employee wellbeing topics when they attend the East Midlands Wellbeing @ Work summit being held at Derby County's Pride Park stadium on Wednesday January 16th. The summit, which is being hosted by leading health & wellbeing experts, Unlimited Wellbeing in partnership with Derby County, aims to explore the current challenges employers face relating to employee wellbeing and the opportunities that these challenges offer.
An impressive collection of keynote speakers, including Dr Holly Blake, Associate Professor of Behavioural Science at University of Nottingham, will be addressing the audience, which includes some of the East Midlands largest employers. on a broad range of topics including risks posed by poor physical health and lifestyles as well as debate about the increasing need to support employee mental health and psychological wellbeing.
Unlimited Wellbeing COO, Dave Leverton says that employers are faced with a number of diverse challenges in the modern workplace with the productivity of UK employees reported to be over 20% less than workers in other G7 nations. "The UK has an ageing workforce, the highest levels of obesity in Europe and a relatively high proportion of smokers'" explains Dave. "On average every employee costs their employer over £550 each year through absence from work which in turn costs industry over £14 billion. This figure looks set to increase further as we see more and more people being affected by problems relating to issues such as anxiety and work related stress The summit aims to really understand these metrics and help employers to find workable, sustainable and affordable long term solutions."
The event has proved so popular that organisers had to close applications to attend several weeks ago although there are plans to stream the event on social media platforms and for more events in other regions across UK. Those fortunate enough to have secured places can look forward to a healthy breakfast on arrival followed by a morning of highly engaging and informative debate.
