Accelerating franchise recruitment for Driving Miss Daisy

Driving Miss Daisy offer a safe, caring and reliable service for those people who find it difficult to get out and about. Their franchisees provide companionship and transportation for the elderly, children and people with disabilities, among many others! The franchise started in New Zealand and came to the UK in 2015.

In late 2015, the marketing team at Driving Miss Daisy decided to trial a franchise exhibition and decided to book The Franchise Show at ExCel for the following February. Tina Webb, Director of Communications at Driving Miss Daisy, explains, “It was a significant financial layout considering our budget back then but securing just one franchisee from the show would make the investment worthwhile.”

The Franchise Show was a success with over 16,000 pre-registered visitors and Driving Miss Daisy felt their stand received its fair share of those visitors over the two days. “We spoke to lots of potential prospects at the show as well as arranging to meet existing prospects too. In the end, we recruited franchisees for Bromley and Stalham, North Norfolk, fresh from the show and sealed the deal with two others who had started their enquiries from other sources. We wanted one franchisee from the show and got four - a great team result!” says Tina.

Driving Miss Daisy were quick to sign up for the following year’s show and exhibited with one of their specially-adapted Daisy vehicles. Driving Miss Daisy is a low-cost franchise at £15,000 but it also draws interest as people connect on an emotional level with the concept and can see the gap in the market for this type of service. Tina was even more pleased with their reception at the show in February 2017, “Having the Daisy car on the stand was a massive pull - the livery is bright and appealing with its distinctive daisies. We were literally talking to visitors from the moment the show opened to when it ended. We scanned 90+ visitors to the stand over the two days and are in the process of having conversations with nine prospects.”

But it’s not just during the show that exhibitors pick up prospective franchisees. “As a result of taking the time to complete our profile section on The Franchise Show website, we received an enquiry for the Bognor Regis, West Sussex, franchise territory. They are a family currently living abroad and were looking for a franchise business in advance of relocating back to the UK. They will be signing their franchise agreement and beginning training this April on their return,” adds Tina.
