Press Release

26th May 2015

For immediate distribution

City Stories and McQueen, two shows written by award-winning playwright, James Phillips, are currently shining their light on the London stage:

City Stories returns to the Studio at St James Theatre, Victoria, from 2-7 June to mark the opening of “McQueen”, currently on in the theatre’s Main House.

City Stories are tales of Love and Magic in London, all scored by live music written and performed by Rosabella Gregory, a mesmerising singer songwriter.

They’re all little jewels, six interwoven stories all set in contemporary London, all magic realism. A new type of cabaret drama, utterly simple and bare stage sparse: woven together by wonderful actors and Rosabella’s haunting music which accompanies, almost ‘dresses’ the stories. So captivating are these vignettes that Elaine Paige recently played a City Stories song on her Radio 2 show.

City Stories is really a love letter to London. The show is intrinsically linked to contemporary London with every story set in the city and like ‘McQueen' it’s a magical London. The audience is taken on a journey to St Pancras, Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery, Highgate, Chelsea. One story is set in St Paul’s.

The show is performed by the City Stories Company, a tight band of actors who come together every few months to perform a tiny run of just a few nights.

The City Stories Company includes: Uriel Adiv, Daphne Alexander, Peter Bradley, Emily Bruni, Louisa Clein, Alan Cox, Sally Dexter, David Farley, Kirsten Farley, Karina Fernandez, Tom Gordon, Rosabella Gregory, Scott Handy, Alexander Hanson, David Howe, Gary Kemp, Chloe Mashiter, Penelope McGhie, James Phillips, Sarah Quintrell, Grace Smart, Phoebe Sparrow, Martin Turner, Yolanda Vazquez, Jay Villiers.

The stories have just been published by Methuen and an album of Rosabella Gregory’s music from the show has just been released. Special June shows of City Stories will be performed from 2nd – 7th June to mark McQueen being performed in the Main House.
