Christmas Is Blooming

Mansfield has a very special feature this Christmas – a beautiful photo chalet decorated with hand crafted flowers made by talented resident Datsa Gaile.

Why not pop along and take a special photo amongst the magnificent festive display of both large and small red blooms?

Datsa 46, has decked the wooden chalet out as a special treat for visitors to the town centre.

Despite only starting her business Datsa’s Flowers just over a year ago, her unique style is already attracting international acclaim. Self- taught and utilising special crepe paper imported from Italy, it is her large natural looking flowers which are particularly unusual and eye catching.

Datsa delivers masterclasses in paper flower making locally and has also recently taught students in Latvia. Next year she will share her skills around the globe with bookings already for Ireland, and Mexico. ‘Each student makes something individual.’ Datsa says. ‘Even when they use the same design and technique, they all have their own special touch.’

In addition to the Christmas photo chalet, Datsa has completed displays at the Mansfield Garden Festival, a Miss England event, a music performance, Gala Ball and weddings. Her amazing floral sets provide a magnificent backdrop or wonderful stage dressing. All her decorative work has come through recommendations and contact from those who have seen her displays on her social media.

Serial entrepreneur Datsa, created her flower business through experimentation building upon ideas she developed as additions to her gift-wrapping service. That was known for its magnificent bows. Her ethos in business is to always look after and support other people. She believes you have to ‘give it to get it, that you should never burn bridges and should give credit where other help you.’

‘I just love trying out different things,’ explains Datsa, ‘I wanted to create a high- quality product so kept practicing, stayed positive and worked with various forms of paper until I found the best one. The reaction I get when people see my displays, is so amazing. It’s an absolute pleasure’

A fan of continuous learning, Datsa will also be hosting a new workshop in London in 2019. This will feature a special form of flower making and large figure decors made from five different materials. It will showcase skills she has learnt from a renowned Russian expert. ‘As a child in Latvia I always went to free after school classes to learn more. I enjoyed creative activities like drawing and art as well as singing and dancing and when I was older, I did a short floristry course. I’ve never lost that love for making things even though I have done a variety of other jobs including promotions, administration and presentation work. I get inspiration for my designs from following celebrities and feel that if you have vision you can achieve anything.’

Her tips for those who thinking of launching a business in 2019 are to do work that you enjoy and look to serve a niche market.
