Chamber Welcomes Investment in Manchester Airport

Commenting on the news of investment in Manchester Airport, Christian Spence, Head of Research & Policy at Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, said:

“The investment being made into delivering even greater capacity at Manchester Airport will provide significant benefits not only for the airport itself and for the local economy, but for the whole Northern Powerhouse and beyond.

“As the gateway to the North of England and the only two-runway airport outside London, Manchester Airport is a key asset for the UK providing increasing numbers of flights to new destinations and greater capacity for both leisure and business travellers and crucially for cargo, too.

“The transformed customer experience this investment will deliver sets Manchester Airport ready to play an even greater role in our international infrastructure which, combined with other infrastructure investments planned across the North of England will increase the opportunities for the region to grow its economy over the coming years and decades.

“We call on government to play its part in delivering greater capacity on key access routes to the airport from around the UK as well as acknowledging the full role that regional airports can play in supporting the UK’s aviation policy in the future.”
