CAPR-Style is an adaptive clothing company that hand-make clothing to reflect the needs of the wearer. Designed for those with additional support needs (ASN) we cater to both physical and behavioural conditions. We aim to improve the quality of life of those with special needs, their families and carers by providing stylish garments that offer solutions to the challenges that traditional clothing creates. We are a small business that creates high quality, unique and fashionable clothing in an under-represented market.

Operating CAPR-Style in a home-office allows Claudia to manage her small team effectively whilst also being a full-time mother of three young boys.

Claudia Romero, founder of CAPR-Style, tells her story: “Christian, my youngest son, has a rare condition which means he cannot do anything by himself. He was the inspiration for CAPR-Style and lends his initials to form part of the company name, CAPR. Due to a gap in the market I had to design and make adapted, stylish garments for him rather than dressing him in loose fitting clothing – a choice many parents and carers have to make to ease the struggle of dressing. This realisation grew to a desire to help as many people as possible with similar challenges, and is now a full wardrobe of adaptive clothing which caters to a variety of physical and behavioural needs.

“We work with our customers to create ideal products and sizes as we learn of the unique challenges they face. One of the most common problems they experience is the lack of underwear body-vests with space for nappies or pads after the age of five. We have created four different styles of body vests, available in all sizes, which tackle different challenges such as undressing in public or wandering hands as well as providing extra room for nappies and pads.

“We hope that with the increasing awareness of those with additional support needs in fashion we will be at the forefront of a shift in the industry to be more inclusive and to allow more people to express themselves and not be limited in their clothing choices. Our ultimate goal is to instil the belief that there are no barriers to style.”

The month of November is going to be an exciting one for CAPR-Style as we have been nominated for three awards, in three very exciting categories. Unique in the Mumpreneur Awards, Fashion in the Great British Entrepreneur Awards and Social in the Creative Edinburgh Awards.
