23 NOVEMBER 2016

Last Saturday night, local heroes from Stevenage town mixed with the Mayor, MPs and leaders of business at a local hotel for the annual Pride of Stevenage Awards.

The awards are in their 8th year and are hosted by Stevenage Borough Council who describe the evening as: “A celebration of local heroes, the individuals who give their time, passion and skills to help make Stevenage a great place to work, live and play. They [the Pride of Stevenage Awards] celebrate community spirit and are a big thank you to those who make a real difference in our town.”

The night started with an address by mayor Councillor John Lloyd who emphasised the importance of community in the 70th year birthday of Stevenage. Presenting the awards and overseeing the occasion was Sharon Taylor OBE, leader of Stevenage Borough Council.

Guest of honour at the awards was local lad Oliver James, cox in the gold-winning rowing mixed coxed four at the 2016 Rio Paralympic games.

The btc were awarded the Enterprise Award for making a real contribution to commercial life in Stevenage whilst being highly valued by the local community.
