"Botty Burps" after Eating?
Digestive related health problems affect approximately one in five people in the UK. Quite simply, if you can’t digest your food well, your cells don’t work optimally. This leads to a variety of digestive health issues including indigestion, acid-reflux, bloating, wind, food intolerances, inflammation and fatigue.
I think that we all know someone who suffers from indigestion or bloating after a meal or worse still, those smelly “botty burps”, as my brother used to say when we were younger!
People of all ages can benefit from supplemental digestive enzymes. They enhance our ability to get nutrients to our cells. As we age we typically make fewer digestive enzymes. Children with learning, behavioural, digestive or skin issues often benefit from enzyme supplementation. People who have food intolerances or are sensitive to digesting certain foods such as dairy products or items made from wheat can often broaden what they eat because they are actually digesting the food properly.
Dr. Elizabeth Lipsky, author of Digestive Connection and Digestive Wellness for Children, says “When working with clients I am always looking for the lever that will push healing into gear. One tool that I have found to be effective is supplemental digestive enzymes.”
As we know, not all food supplements are equal, so check the labels before purchasing from your health food store. Look for a quality plant-based digestive enzyme product, that contains no fillers or flow agents such as magnesium stearate. Digest Spectrum, by Enzymedica (www.enzymedica.co.uk), ticks all the boxes in terms of quality and efficacy. It is a vegetarian, multiple food intolerance formula, which provides specialised digestive support for gluten, phenol (chemical compound found in plants), lactose (sugar found in milk products) and casein (protein found in dairy). Digest Spectrum is a great product to start with and it is gentle enough to be used by children.
