Blighty Coffee - A Commonwealth inspired community coffee house
Hello, we are Blighty Coffee and we would like to tell you a bit about ourselves...
We are a local, community minded coffee shop. We've been based on Blackstock road, the heart of Finsbury Park for 3 years and love seeing regular and new faces alike come through our doors everyday.
Our mission is to celebrate the food, drink and coffee of Britain and the countries of the Commonwealth. We use our own hand roasted seasonal coffee using beans from small holder producers. We believe everything happens around a good cup of coffee. This month our house roasted coffee beans are from Malawi.
We are passionate about producing good value and good quality food and coffee. We are proud to have been awarded a Time Out Love London award in 2015.
Our popular brunch menu features the infamous ‘Winston’ full English and its veggie counterpart ‘the Clementine’. We take our Inspiration from the traditional components of a full English breakfast while adding our own modern twist. We serve our mushrooms with rosemary, onion and thyme as they would have been in the 1940’s. We use quality British sausages and are perfectionists when it comes to poached eggs. We use locally sourced ingredients as much as possible and believe in generous portions. Both full English dishes come with a side of homemade baked beans and slice of sourdough baked in house. It’s a dish we think Churchill himself would have been proud of! The rest of our day menu features a few hand picked brunch classics made using simple, fresh ingredients.
At the counter we have sourdough loaves from Bread by Bike who bake fresh bread 6 mornings a week in our kitchen. Choose a slice of one of our delicious handmade cakes and other sweet treats to have in or take away and of course a cup of our house blend coffee which can also be bought by the bag.
Throughout the summer why not grab a seat in our garden, Finsbury Parks best kept secret. We’ll have hot food, cold drinks (alcoholic, soft and caffeinated!), deck chairs, table tennis and (fingers crossed) sunshine.
We aspire to be a creative hub within the community and encourage people to use our space to host events, talks, exhibitions, meetups and more. We have weekly yoga classes, life drawing and are a collection point for Crop Drop, a local, sustainable vegetable box scheme. We hold latte art competitions which we invite baristas from local coffee shops to participate in and try to stock products from neighbouring businesses like our beer from Beavertown Brewery in Tottenham. We want to re-create the style and character of coffee houses from times gone by - the centre of the community.
Upstairs is home to Blighty Arts, a shared workspace with full time and hot desks available to hire. We often see regulars who come in with their laptops to work in the coffee shop eventually making the move upstairs to a permanent desk and becoming one of the Blighty Arts residents. With creative professionals and startups from a variety of different backgrounds it makes for a unique working environment. We organise talks on different topics each month as well as socials.
This month at Blighty Coffee we are launching our new evening menu which will be served from 6pm Wednesdays to Saturdays. Inspired by the 53 member states of the Commonwealth we are serving up Malawian spiced whitebait, scotch egg with haggis and 48 hour brined pork ribs. Plus we have our epic Blighty burgers made with chuck steak mince and served on Brioche with bacon jam or our kefta spiced roast cauliflower, romanesco and quinoa burger with mint yogurt.
