Are you ready for GDPR- The new EU General Data Protection Regulation

If you hold data on individuals, you will be affected when the Data Protection Act is replaced by the General Data Protection Regulation in 2018.

The EU GDPR directive which comes into force on the 25th May 2018, aims to protect privacy and personal data with clear penalties for those who fail to comply with the legislation.

To understand the principles behind GDPR, you need to consider that any data that you hold has been loaned to you by the owner, and they are in control of who has it and what they do with it.

The General Data Protection Regulation covers all data and meta-data held about employees, prospects, customers, suppliers or anyone else, where they are referred to as an individual, opposed to a company.

For example this does not apply to a company recorded as "Some Org Ltd", but would apply to "Joe Bloggs, Managing Director at Some Org Ltd". Therefore any company that stores names and addresses is likely to be required to comply with this regulation.

We are hosting a series of Midlands based events to equip you with knowledge about the new directive and offer steps you can take to make sure you are GDPR ready.

These events will take place in Birmingham on the 7th March 2017, and Rugby on the 14th March 2017. More information can be found on the gdprready events page https://gdprready.co.uk/event

This is an opportunity for you to ask questions about GDPR and find out how it will affect you, as well as planning routes to compliance. As the scope of GDPR and it's requirements differ from the Data Protection act, it is key that you understand what the changes are, as breach reports will be made mandatory for all.
